Since 2011, Park Place Shopping Centre has been following the very best environmental practices outlined through BOMA Canada’s BOMA BEST program.

BOMA BEST- Platinum is the highest environmental designation available in Canada through the Building Owners and Managers Association recognizing excellence in environmental performance, energy management and ongoing environmental initiatives. One of those initiatives began in 2010 with a partnership with bullfrogpower.  Park Place started integrating renewable wind energy and natural gas on the grid/pipeline which is equivalent to the same energy that is being used in 100% of the common areas, food court and offices, which echoes our commitment to environmental sustainability and to the future of the community in which we live.  Just one single turbine, like the turbines at the wind farm near Pincher Creek, operating for about 35 minutes–generates enough electricity to power a typical home for a month.

The TOBY® Award is the most prestigious and comprehensive program of its kind in the commercial real estate industry recognizing quality in commercial real estate buildings and rewarding excellence in building management through community impact, tenant relations, energy conservation, environmental, regulatory and sustainability, emergency preparedness & security standards and the training of building personnel.

We believe that our shopping centre has an essential role in being a positive ambassador for environmental leadership which we promote through several ongoing environmental programs. Some of the other programs include a centre wide Recycling and Waste Management Plan, water and energy conservation using low-flow water fixtures, timed low energy and LED lighting, continued improvement of indoor air quality through oxygen emitting foliage, as well as the Sustainable Rooftop Vegetable Garden.  The garden consists of planters constructed of reclaimed wood/shipping pallets; it is fed with harvested rainwater and compost from food court tenants and the vegetables are then donated to the Lethbridge Food Banks. Since its inception in 2009, close to 1000lbs of vegetables have been harvested and donated to local charities.
